BBS Observation

It is our belief that all accidents incidents can be prevented and that protecting human life is our core value. This is achieved by getting employees to buy into this philosophy and support from management.

Guidelines

1. Plan - Decide where to conduct observation & set a good example by wearing all appropriate PPE for the job observed.
2. Inform - Notify all appropriate personnel and the individual you will be observing that you will be conducting an observation. Respect job scope and planning if it isn't possible to safely conduct observation.
3. Observe - Allow 10-15 mins. for quality observation before discussing feedback. Stay in a safe area while observing critical work. *If during observation, the observer or anyone else notices an immediate danger or threat to life exercise SWA and record on observation.
4. Debrief - Inform EE that observation is complete. Discuss safe behaviors first. Make a smooth transition between safe and at risk. Complete thorough and specific discussion on each at risk. *Remember, seek to understand rather than accuse.
5. Follow-up - Take this time to review all observed data and record actions required to eliminate hazard that neither the EE or observer could record that the time of the observation. i.e. Facility / Process review and or EQP / PPE needs.
